WHAT IS THE COPING CAT PROGRAM?

An Evidence-Based, Empirically Supported Treatment

Coping Cat is a research-backed anxiety treatment for children ages 7–13. It is one of the most widely studied and empirically supported treatments (ESTs) for childhood anxiety disorders.

Developed through decades of research, this structured program teaches kids practical skills to reduce anxiety symptoms and improve daily functioning. Children learn to identify their worries, practice coping strategies, and build confidence in handling stressful situations.

At Restoration & Wellness in Fort Washington, PA, our licensed therapists bring the Coping Cat program to families across Montgomery County and the Greater Philadelphia area. As a result, children gain tools they can use for life, while parents receive guidance to reinforce progress at home.

WHAT KIDS LEARN IN THE COPING CAT PROGRAM

Skills, Tools, and Confidence for Managing Anxiety

Through fun activities, guided practice, and step-by-step strategies, children ages 7–13 develop tools to recognize, manage, and overcome anxiety. The program builds confidence while giving kids practical skills they can use every day.

In Coping Cat, children learn to:

  • Recognize and embrace anxious feelings in a healthy way

  • Confront worries with bravery and support

  • Build confidence when facing new challenges

  • Practice coping skills on a regular basis

  • Navigate school, friendships, and daily life more easily

  • Cultivate lifelong strategies to manage anxiety and stress

As a result, kids gain more than short-term relief—they develop the confidence and resilience to handle anxiety well into the future. Parents also benefit by seeing measurable growth in their child’s ability to face challenges.
